The Women Peace Humanitarian Fund project (WPHF), is a UN Women sponsored project, implemented by partners across Nigeria. Scripture Union West Africa (SUWA), one of the implementing partners has been working in Taraba State (Ibi, Wukari, Donga and Takum) and Cross River State (Ogoja) for over a year now.
The project which is basically about improving women political participation and empowering women economically has gained so much ground in the project locations. Beneficiaries have been very grateful for the privileges they have been enjoying since the project started.
Recently, the project gave participants the opportunity of learning skills that will improve their economic well-being. Participants in Ogoja Settlement camp and host community were trained on liquid soap making and tailoring.
Participants were divided into groups and given the materials to produce soap in their various groups. Each group came up with their soap and talked about ways through which they can grow the skill into a venture through which they can earn a living for themselves and their families.
Also, some of the most vulnerable among them were selected and given the opportunity to learn tailoring. The project made provision for their learning and also promised to empower them at the end of the period. Beneficiaries were encouraged to pay attention to what they will be taught so as to learn all they need to learn within the stipulated time.
